Alyssa Coscarelli was previously an editor for Refinery29 and now is mostly known for being the familiar face behind the Instagram account called alyssainthecity. From fashion week, to grand openings, to brand collaborations and more, Alyssa is exposed to the world’s most renowned fashion icons and is quickly becoming one of them herself. It would be difficult to reach this status without some expertise in styling, especially in the world of denim. It is a true staple in the closets of the industry’s most trusted names and most don’t go a week without posting a look with it.

Skinny, oversized, boyfriend, mom, trucker, selvedge, and the list goes on and on. To some, these all are commonplace in conversation, but to others, you might as well be speaking Portuguese. With a mid wash pair of jeans, a beige top can be a great combination. Top (bottom?) it off with a unique pair of black shoes and you are set for a confident, easy-going day. Alyssa chose a slightly oversized jacket which we love.

Let's be honest. Making a black, monochromatic look that features some denim is a great way to not think twice about what you are wearing, for almost any occasion. Stroll almost any street feeling confident, and transition into night with no effort at all. Alyssa chose to add a pop of light with what appears to be a vintage tee shirt under her jacket, matching a pair of statement white/red boots.

Double it up for the best possible results. If you have it, a jacket with subtly unique details can be paired very well with a simpler pair of jeans. Alyssa does just that, with the denim jacket attracting your attention away from the fact that she even is wearing double denim. Slate-colored accessory and boots finish it off to create something edgy yet refined.

An absolute classic go-to option for incorporating denim into your day is tossing an oversized jean jacket on top of a dress. Mix and match washes with varying dresses to reach endless opportunities. As the perfect example, a solid mid-wash jacket with an undone hem worn on top of a checkered dress with checkered Vans to match is a great look for Spring. Whether it is cropped, a bomber jacket or an oversized trucker fit, layering denim over dresses should always be on your back burner of options. Think monochromatic to even further take the guess work out.
